Day 1:
As the bus left the school for camp rumbug I felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
Part of the journey to rumbug was on Eastlink. We stopped to eat our play lunch at a park which had not only a playground but it had a skate park. Most of the journey was through the country side but we went through some small towns. When we got to the first sign that said camp rumbug we had to go down this twisty turnery road that just dropped off to one side at any random time, once the bus actually tilted to one side.
At the camp we unloaded the bags into the corridor and went down into the rec room were Matt called out our room groups and told us which room we were in, so we went and found our bags and put them in the our rooms. We went back into the rec room and we got put into our activity groups. Then we went down to the intersection in our activity groups and we were told to hold hands with a girl (or two) in your group and we started the fun and fitness trial!
First you had to go down to the bottom of the hill until you got to a big, slippery hill and you had to get to the top of that and then you crawl through two tunnels on your knees then you had to climb over a rope wall and cross a bridge, then holding your girls hand you ran down to the mud pit and you crawled through that on your stomach then you ran up a bigger and more slippery hill.
When we got back to the intersection we had morning tea and then we went onto our first activity. Mine was Drawbridge course, were you cross the river on nothing but 3 rafts and when you got to the other side you had to do an obstacle course.
After this we went back to the bunk rooms to have showers and change. At dinner we had to escort a girl to her seat and sit next to her for the whole time. For dinner we had roast lamb with gravy and vegetables.
Next we got ready to go on our night walk; we went down to the intersection and got split up into two groups: 1 went on the night walk and the other roasted marshmallows. I was roasting marshmallows first. They were gross. On the night walk we didn’t see any animals but we did see a spider and the tracks of animals looking for food.
When we got back we had super which was Milo with chocolate cake. The beds were comfortable, made a lot of noise when you moved around.
